The highest mountains, snow-white glaciers, incredibly beautiful lakes, spacious valleys, mountain passes – these are unusual and incredibly beautiful sights of winter Altai. In our jeep tour we have combined wild nature and reasonable comfort. In 8 days Altai will stay in your heart forever!

Itinerary: Gorno-Altaisk – Altai region – Ust-Koksa – Aktash – Kosh-Agach – Chemal – Gorno-Altaisk.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1. Gorno-Altaisk – Swan Lake – Ust-Koksa

Arrival in Gorno-Altaisk.

Meeting with a guide at the airport.

Breakfast in a cafe.

Departure to the lake Svetloye, where the Swan Reserve is located. This is one of the unique phenomena, which can be observed only in winter – huge flocks of swans coming to wintering to the non-freezing lake in Altai Krai. You can listen to the continuous muffling of swans, try to understand what they are talking about, and at the same time feed them.

Departure to Ust-Koksa village. On the way we will overcome 4 mountain passes: Chiket-Aman, Yabogansky, Kyrlyksky and Gromotukhinsky, we will stop for lunch in Ust-Kan village and close to the evening arrive to the final point – Ust-Koksa village.

Welcome dinner (included in the tour price).

Day 2. Excursion along Uimonskaya Valley to Tyungur

Breakfast.

Today we will drive along the Uimonskaya valley separating Katun and Terektinsky ranges.

In good weather conditions we will have an opportunity to see the beautiful Belukha (4506 m) from the observation deck.

Stop at the monument to Sukhov.

On the way back – excursion to Verkhny Uymon village – one of the oldest villages of Ust-Koksinsky district, founded by the Old Believers more than 300 years ago. There are three museums in the village: the N.K. Roerich Museum, Museum of Old Believership and Museum of Gems.

In the evening master-class on making an amulet doll «Uymonochka».

Day 3. Multinskiye lakes

Breakfast.

Transfer by jeep to the village Multa-Maralnik, change transport to snowmobiles with sledges and continue our way to the Lower Multinskoye Lake. The lake is located at an altitude of 1710 meters and is a Natural Monument.

Hiking in the surrounding.

Lunch-picnic (included in the tour price).

Returning to the hotel close to the evening.

Overnight in Ust-Koksa village.

Distance: 60 km by car, 26 km by snowmobile, 5 km on foot.

Day 4. Aktash. «Uch Enmek». Petroglyphs «Kalbak-tash»

Breakfast.

Check-out, transfer to Aktash.

Visiting Karakol Nature Park «Uch Enmek». During the excursion we will get acquainted with different kinds of traditional dwellings of indigenous Altai people, as well as with the basics of their material and spiritual culture.

On the way we will stop at the confluence of the Chuya and Katun rivers (only in winter these rivers can be seen in such color!).

Not far away we will see petroglyphs «Kalbak-tash». This unique archeological monument of the Altai Republic was a sacred place for the peoples living here at different times. Now the complex counts about 5 thousand rock drawings of different epochs.

Day 5. Red Gates, Geyser Lake and Altai Mars*/Katu-Yaryk

Breakfast.

In the morning visiting Red Gates. Passing along the narrow ribbon of road through the Chibitka River, it is impossible not to stop at the picturesque place – huge steep rocks of red color rise 50 meters into the heights, thanks to volcanic rocks, which contain an admixture of mercury minerals.

The next stop is near Geyser Lake – the «earth's eye» of unique turquoise color. From time to time «geysers» come to life, throwing to the surface a mixture of bluish clay and sand, forming numerous circles on the bottom of the lake.

Departure to Kyzyl Chin valley (Altai Mars), where unreal Martian landscapes painted with an amazing palette of colors are waiting for us. The local rock contains mercury in large quantities and this gives a reddish color to the surrounding rocks.

Overnight in Aktash village.

Distance: by car 250 km, on foot 4 km.

* Excursion to Altai Mars is possible in good weather conditions.

In case of snowfall it will be offered to drive along Ulagan highland to Katu-Yaryk pass, from where an incredible view of the Chulyshman river valley opens up.

Day 6. Chemal village. Bison nursery

Breakfast.

Check-out, transfer to Chemal village.

On the way we will stop at the bison nursery, which is located in Cherga village. In winter you can see a bison just a step away from you. At this time of the year bisons are very peaceful, they approach the net and take bread and carrots from your hand. You can buy food fpr them on spot.

Day 7. Patmos Island, Blue Eyes of Katun, Manzherok

Breakfast.

In the morning we will drive to Patmos Island, which is cozily situated in the middle of the Katun River and is connected with the big land by a suspended pedestrian bridge. On the island there is a nunnery and the church of St. John the Theologian.

Then we will visit the marvelous «Blue Lakes» – the eyes of the Katun. It is absolutely unique phenomenon of nature and you can observe it only from October till April.

For lunch (paid on spot) we will stop at the all-season resort Manzherok, and after that we will make an excursion ascent to the Sinyukha mountain.

Distance: 105 km by car, 2 km on foot.

How to get there

There are several ways to get from Moscow to the starting point of the tour:
the most convenient way is by airplane to Gorno-Altaisk (about 4,5 hours from Moscow: Aeroflot, Pobeda, S7 and other airlines).

You can also get there:
– by flight to Barnaul (4 hours from Moscow, Aeroflot, S7 Airlines and others);
– by train to Barnaul (2,5 days from Moscow);
– by flight to Novosibirsk (3,5 hours from Moscow, Aeroflot, S7 Airlines and others);
– by train to Novosibirsk (2 days from Moscow)
Flight tickets to Novosibirsk are often cheaper than to Barnaul, but transfer from Novosibirsk takes longer.

Flights from Moscow to Barnaul or Gorno-Altaisk usually depart in the evening and land the next morning. Flights from Barnaul depart to Moscow in the morning and land in Moscow the same morning. There are day flights from Moscow to Novosibirsk, which are convenient to arrive at the time of the tour start. There are evening and morning flights from Novosibirsk to Moscow.
