Сape Dezhnev is the easternmost point of Eurasia and the real edge of the earth! During the trip you'll touch the history of Arctic exploration and get acquainted with the pristine Chukotka nature. You'll see picturesque tundra landscapes and bird breeding grounds, meet with wheals and get acquainted with the traditions of indigenous communities.

Area: Cape Dezhnev – the Senyavin Strait, the Bering Sea, the Chukotka Peninsula, Russia.   

Program features:

1) Tour price includes hotel accommodation in Anadyr and all meals during the tour.

Meals in cities and villages – in the hotels, in tundra food is prepared by a cook.

2) Tour price includes tickets for local flights Anadyr – Lavrentiya village and Provideniya village – Anadyr.

Not included extra services such as beverages, souvenirs.

3) The tour is organised in the best period for whales and walrus watching in the Senyavin Strait. In the Beringia National Park our group is accompanied by the experienced nature guide.

4) During sea passages group is escorted by a native Chukotka captain.

5) Accommodation in tundra is organized in a guest house build special for tourists (8–10 pax). Close to the house there are thermal springs which can be visited every day.

6)  In case of flight cancellation Provideniya – Anadyr, accommodation, meals and excursions on additional days are paid by the clients on spot.


Attention!

1) The tour participation requires a special border permit for all tourists (tour operator applies it 30 days before the tour).

2) Please take into account specific features of travelling in a wild nature quite far from the civilization.

3) Tour program can be changed due to the weather conditions.

In a case of flight delay from Provideniya village to Anadyr or forced reduction of stay in the tundra the tour includes extra excursions to the Beringia National Park:

– Avan – ancient Eskimo settlement with the remains of meat pits, located near the picturesque spit separating lake Isiheed from the Bering sea.

– Old Chaplino – the site of the former Chaplino settlement. Opportunity of whale watching.

4) Tourists need to have warm water resistant jacket and trousers for sea voayges, personal hygiene items, individual medicines, individual dishes (optionally). 

5) Due to the severe weather conditions the flight departure to Moscow can be delayed for 1 day and more. In this case accommodation, meals and other services on additional days are paid by the clients on spot.

Sightseeing excursion around the city with visiting Ethnographical museum of Chukotka heritage.

2 Day (Saturday) Excursion to Gudym

Breakfast at the hotel.

Check-out.

Transfer to Ugolnye Kopi town (Rus. for «Coalmines»).

Excursion to Gudym – the abandoned military town.

Gudym (Anadyr-1, Magadan-11) – former Soviet and Russian base of Strategic Missile Forces. This military city with underground base was established in 1958. The purpose was storage and routine maintenance of nuclear weapons. In 1986 all nuclear weapons have been removed from the base and it became storage base of the Anadyr military garrison. There were underground facilities 996 meters length divided by level of access to each part of it. Cargo was transported by electric cars on a narrow-gauge underground railway.

3 Day (Sunday) Chukotka fishing

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today we go out of the city for Chukotka fishing. You'll have a great opportunity to take part in fishing and cooking fish soup and caviar.

In August rivers are full of salmon, be ready for a good fish catch!

Lunch-picnic.

Close to the evening returning to the hotel.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant on your own.

*Please note! From the end of August spawning is over. At this time and till the beginning of September tourists will be offered the alternative program:

trip to the beautiful tundra places close to Anadyr (Cape Dionisia).

4 Day (Monday) Flight to Lavrentiya village. Lorino

5 Day (Tuesday) Sea voyage to Cape Dezhnev. Eskimo settlement Naukan

Breakfast.

Departure by speedboat to the easternmost point of Eurasia – Cape Dezhnev.

Travel time 4 hours (one way). Departure time depends on the weather.

Excursion is organised on open-space speed boats for 4–5 pax each.

Arrival at the ancient Eskimo settlement – Naukan. Observing of the dwellings remains and the ancient cemetery.

Semen Dezhnev Memorial lighthouse. Taking pictures of landscapes.

Panoramic view to the islands Diomida, Ratmanova (Russian Federation) and Krusenstiern (USA).

Lunch-picnic.

In a good weather crossing the Bering Strait from the Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Ocean (1 hour). Disembarking on the easternmost Russian village Uelen.

Walking around the village, visiting local church and workroom of bone and walrus carving.

Returning from the Uelen to Lavrentiya village (4.5 hours).

6 Day (Wednesday) Reserve day

If the weather permits, tourists will be offered trip to the sea for fishing watching with a brigade of marine hunters – extraction of gray whale or walrus.

Hunting is organized in Lavrentiya or Lorino village*.

* It's an option and not included in the tour price. Organisation can be on spot, for extra pay if the local community will be ready to take tourists to hunt.

7 Day (Thursday) Lorino – the biggest Chukotka village

Breakfast.

Excursion to Lorino village – the biggest in Chukotka. Visiting local craftsmen of walrus carving, glacier, country club.

Bathing in thermal springs.

Lunch-picnic.

Sea voyage by boats to the Mechigmenskiy Bay, watching seabirds and seals, disembarking in one of the picturesque place.

Masik – old settlement, Whale Alley.

Cape Haluskin – birds' bazaars.

Sea voyage to the Getlyangen lagoon and Yanrakynnot village, sea birds' and animals' watching (seals, lahtak, whales).

Accommodation in the school of Yanrakynnot village (it's the only place where possible to overnight comfortable for tourists of Chukotka region).

Village is located on the shore of the Senyavin Strait where Marich river confluences into the strait. The uniqueness of this village lies in the combination of two cultures of the reindeer and coastal Chukchi.

In Yanrakynnot village you may visit monument in the honor of Vice-Admiral Makarov, a Russian naval figure, oceanographer, polar explorer.

Walking around the village: school, administration, library, abandoned fur farm, old Chukchi lodges.

It's possible to taste national dishes in a local house: deer meat, walrus, whale, dishes made of mushrooms and berries.

8 Day (Friday) Sea voyage to the Sinyavin Strait

Breakfast in the school canteen.

Walking around the village.

Sea voyage to the camp located on the Sinyavin thermal springs.

On the way it's possible to observe the Markinkan Island and watching a large colony of hoverflies and poplars.

Accommodation at the camp of the Beringia National Park (8–10 pax in a house, furnace heating).

Walking to Senyavin thermal springs (nature monument «Klyuchevoy»), bathing.

9 Day (Saturday) Yttygran Island and Whale Alley

Breakfast.

Excursion to the Yttygran Island and sacred monument of Eskimo culture Whale Alley (with a guide).

Optionally: walk to the monument to the whaling flotilla «Aleut» and visiting the Klyuchevaya river mouth.

It's possible to observe Canadian cranes and representatives of the hawk family: buzzard (barnacle) and gyrfalcon (red-billed subspecies).

10 Day (Sunday) Achinkinkan and Merkinkan Islands

Breakfast.

History of two islands: Achinkinkan and Merkinkan and the Pankingnay Bay.

Sea voyage by boats and sightseeing excursion around the islands.

These are two small islands in the Pankingnay Bay of the Senyavin Strait.

Observing of the largest Chukotka's nesting colony of puffins, horned puffins and pigeon guillemot.

Whale watching (it's possible to see gray and humpback whales). Disembarking on the Merkinkan Island.

Picnic.

Sea voyage along the Pankingnay Bay, disembarking at the mouth of the Pestsovaya River, hiking to an old abandoned reindeer herders' camp.

Returning to the camp.

11 Day (Monday) Nuneangan and Arakamchechen Islands. Whale watching

Breakfast.

Arakamchechen Island, whale and walrus watching.

Sea voyage along the Senyavin Strait with a guide and an inspector of the Beringia National Park. It's possible to observe whales (from a safe distance). There is a high probability of seeing gray and humpback whales.

Boat trip to the Nuneangan Island. Observation of a walrus rookery (if there is a rookery at this period of time).

Picnic.

Boat trip to the Glazenapa Bay (the southwestern tip of Arakamchechen Island in the Senyavin Strait), visit the grave of sailor Yegor Purin from the clipper Gaidamak, who was buried in 1875.

Lunch in tundra.

Returning to the camp.

How to get there

There are regular direct flights to Anadyr from Moscow operated by Rossiya Airlines.
The flight time is about 8 hours and air tickets cost from 40 000 Rubles round-trip.
On some days of the week there are flights to Anadyr from Magadan, Yakutsk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.

Meals

The tour price includes meals according to the program:

Day 1 – no meals (lunch and dinner on your own)

Day 2 – breakfast, lunch (dinner on your own)

Day 3 – lunch (breakfast and dinner on your own)

Days 4–13 day – full board

Melals in Lorino: cooked by locals (soup, buckwheat with whale meat, potatoes with whale meat, eggs).

Anadyr: meals at the Anadyr Hotel. Simple Russian dishes: scrambled eggs, porridge, potatoes with fish or meat.

Provideniya village: homemade Russian cuisine in the cafe. 

In tundra food is prepared by a cook:

breakfast – porridge / scrambled eggs / pancakes;

snack – apples, cheese, sausage, cookies, sweets;

lunch – salad, soup / pea soup / mushroom soup;

dinner – pickles, pilaf / mashed potatoes + mushrooms / buckwheat + stew / pasta + sausages.
