Program features:

– Beringia National Park is the easternmost nature protected Russian area located on Chukotka peninsula (Senyavin Strait, Bering Sea)

– The tour is organized in the best period for whales and walrus watching in Senyavin Strait: August – the beginning of September.

– Accommodation in tundra is organized in a guest house build special for tourists (6–8 pax), it makes travelling more comfortable. 

– Close to the house there are thermal springs which can be visited every day (about 30 min on foot / one way).

– Tour price includes hotel accommodation in Anadyr and all meals during the tour.

– Meals in cities and villages – in the hotel, in tundra food is prepared by a cook.

– Tour price includes flight tickets Anadyr – Provideniya village – Anadyr.

– Group is accompanied by local guides and drivers (indigenous Chukotka peoples) and experienced nature guide.

1) The tour participation requires a special border permit for all tourists (tour operator applies it 30 days before the tour).

2) Please take into account specific features of travelling in a wild nature quite far from the civilization.

3) Tour program can be changed due to the weather conditions.

In a case of flight delay from Provideniya village to Anadyr or forced reduction of stay in the tundra the tour includes extra excursions to the Beringia National Park:

– Avan – ancient Eskimo settlement with the remains of meat pits, located near the picturesque spit separating lake Isiheed from the Bering sea.

– Old Chaplino – the site of the former Chaplino settlement. Opportunity of whale watching.

Weather conditions at sea in the Senyavinsky Strait area may make adjustments to the tour schedule.

In case of flight delay from Anadyr to Provideniya, the program of the last days of the tour will be carried out in Anadyr.

4) Tourists need to have warm water resistant jacket and trousers for sea voayges, personal hygiene items, individual medicines, individual dishes (optionally).

0 Day (Sunday) Flight Moscow – Anadyr

Evening flight to Anadyr from Moscow.

1 Day (Monday) First meeting with Anadyr

12:30 Arrival to Anadyr city – the capital of Chukotka Autonomous District.

Passing border control (Chukotka is still an Area of Regulated Visit).

Transfer through the Anadyr Estuary of the Bering Sea (Pacific Ocean) on a barge (during transfer tourists do not leave the car).

Accommodation at the hotel Anadyr 3* (twin rooms).

Sightseeing excursion around the city with visiting Ethnographical museum of Chukotka heritage.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

! NB Depending on the flight arrival and possible delay sightseeing excursion can be replaced to another day.

2 Day (Tuesday) Departure to Provideniya village

Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the airport, crossing the Anadyr Estuary by boat.

10:00 Departure to Provideniya village by flight (in good weather conditions).

11:25 Arrival at Provideniya village. Meeting with a guide of the Beringia National park.

Transfer to Provideniya village by bus. Passing around Emma Bay (9 km) with short excursion about history and life of locals.

Accommodation at the hotel Severnaya (multi-bed rooms, WC on the floor).

Lunch at the cafe.

Excursion to Beringia Heritage Museum.

Walking around the village with visiting the monument to the 1st Kamchatka expedition of Vitus Bering.

Dinner at the cafe.

3 Day (Wednesday) Rumilet Bay and Senyavin Strait. Whale Alley, hot springs

Breakfast.

Check-out and transfer to the Rumilet Bay by off-road cars (short stops for taking pictures).

Boat trip from cordon Rumilet. During sea passage along Senyavin Strait (about 1 hour) it's possible to observe gray and humpback whales, seabirds (Bering's cormorant, spoonbill, hatchet, Pacific Black Guillemot, etc.).

Upon arrival to the basic camp in the Gilmimil lagoon accommodation at the guest house (8 pax in a room with stove, wooden toilet outside).

Lunch.

Excursion to Yttygran Island and sacred monument of Eskimo culture Whale Alley (with a guide).

Optionally: walk to the monument to the whaling flotilla «Aleut» and visiting the Klyuchevaya River. It's possible to observe Canadian cranes and representatives of the hawk family: buzzard (barnacle) and gyrfalcon (red-billed subspecies). Visiting the natural monument «Klyuchevoy» – Sinyavin thermal springs.

Duration of excursion about 4 hours (with a guide and inspector).

4 Day (Thursday) Achinkinkankan and Merkinkan islands. Pankingnay Bay

Breakfast.

Sea voyage by boats and sightseeing excursion around the islands: Achinkinkankan and Merkinkan in the Pankingnay Bay.

Observing of the largest Chukotka's nesting colony of puffins, horned puffins and pigeon guillemot. Whale watching – it's possible to see gray and humpback whales.

Disembarking on the Merkinkan Island, picnic.

Sea voyage along the Pankingnay Bay, disembarking at the mouth of the Pestsovaya River, hiking to an old abandoned reindeer herders' camp.

Returning to the camp.

Optionally: walking to thermal spring, bathing.

5 Day (Friday) Arakamchechen Island. Whale watching

Breakfast.

Sea voyage along the Senyavin Strait with a guide and an inspector of the Beringia National Park. It's possible to observe gray and humpback whales whales (from a safe distance).

Boat trip to the Nuneangan Island. Observation of a walrus rookery (if there is a rookery at this period of time).

A boat trip to the Glazenapa Bay (the southwestern tip of the Arakamchechen Island in Senyavin Strait), visit the grave of sailor Yegor Purin from the clipper Gaidamak, who was buried in 1875.

Lunch in tundra.

Returning to the camp.

Optionally: walking to thermal spring, bathing.

6 Day (Saturday) Chukotka village Yanrakynnot

Breakfast.

Sea voyage to the national Chukotka village Yanrakynnot. The uniqueness of this village lies in the combination of two cultures of the reindeer and coastal Chukchi. The village is located on a hill on the bank of the Senyavin Strait at the confluence of the Marich River.

In Yanrakynnot village you may visit monument in the honor of Vice-Admiral Makarov, a Russian naval figure, oceanographer, polar explorer.

Excursion around the village with a guide: school, administration, library, abandoned fur farm, old Chukchi lodges.

It's possible to taste national dishes in a local house: deer meat, walrus, whale, dishes made of mushrooms and berries.

Returning to the camp.

Optionally: walking to thermal spring, bathing.

Dinner.

7 Day (Sunday) Extra day

If the weather permits we make the sea voyage to the Aboleshev Bay.

It's possible to observe members of the family of seals: akiba (ringed seal) and larga (seal patch).

And watching of humpbacks and grey whales.

In a case of bad wether conditions we stay at the camp and make on-site walking tour.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

8 Day (Monday) Returning to Provideniya village

Check-out and boat trip to cordon Rumilet along Senyavin Strait.

Transfer to Provideniya village by off-road cars.

If time permits – visiting the Eskimo village Novoye Chaplino.

For extra pay: visiting banya (sauna), souvenir shops.

Farewell dinner, discussion of the tour impressions.

10 Day (Wednesday) Excursion to Gudym

Breakfast at the hotel.

Excursion to Gudym – the abandoned military town.

Gudym (Anadyr-1, Magadan-11) – former Soviet and Russian base of Strategic Missile Forces. This military city with underground base was established in 1958. The purpose was storage and routine maintenance of nuclear weapons. In 1986 all nuclear weapons have been removed from the base and it became storage base of the Anadyr military garrison. There were underground facilities 996 meters length divided by level of access to each part of it.

Cargo was transported by electric cars on a narrow-gauge underground railway.

Returning to the hotel.

11 Day (Thursday) Chukotka fishing

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today we go out of the city for Chukotka fishing. You'll have a great opportunity to take part in fishing, cook fish soup. In August rivers are full of salmon, be ready for good fish catch!

Close to the evening returning to the hotel.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

How to get there

There are regular direct flights to Anadyr from Moscow operated by Rossiya Airlines.
The flight time is about 8 hours and air tickets cost from 40 000 Rubles round-trip.
On some days of the week there are flights to Anadyr from Magadan, Yakutsk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.

Meals

During all the tour you will be offered three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner in hotels, cafes, canteens.

In tundra food is prepared by a cook.

Alcohol beverages are not included in the price.

Breakfast: porridge / eggs / pancakes.

Snack: apples, cheese, sausages, cookies, sweets.

Lunch: salad, fish soup / pea soup / mushroom soup.
